Political parties meet LIVE news | Opposition meeting to continue on day 2 in Bengaluru, with NDA gathering 38 parties for big splash in Delhi

The second and concluding day of the Opposition unity meeting in Bengaluru is set to begin here on Tuesday, with 26 like-minded parties closing ranks with a common aim of taking on the Bharatiya Janata Party in the next year’s Lok Sabha polls. The BJP, on the other hand, will be holding a meeting of 38 parties of the National

 

The Opposition meeting on July 18 will begin at 11 a.m. Ahead of the meeting, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah hosted a dinner for leaders of Opposition parties. More than 50 leaders from different parties attended the meeting on Monday.Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the national capital on Tuesday. The NDA meeting will be chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The meeting of the NDA is being organised to mark the completion of 9 years of the central government under PM Mod



The meeting in Bengaluru follows the first such gathering in Patna last month to forge an anti-BJP political front. While this meeting was scheduled to be held at Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, it was moved to Bengaluru due to the weather conditions in the hill State.The Congress is the largest party in the opposition bloc with 80 MPs (49 in Lok Sabha and 31 in Rajya Sabha). It is in power on its own in four States -- Karnataka, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Himachal Pradesh -- and is part of the ruling dispensations in Bihar, Tamil Nadu and Jharkhand.


 The Mamata Banerjee-led party is in power in West Bengal and has 35 MPs (23 Lok Sabha and 12 Rajya Sabha). It also has legislators in a few other States, including Meghalaya.Led by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin, it has influence in Tamil Nadu and in Puducherry. It has 34 MPs (24 in the Lok Sabha and 10 in the Rajya Sabha).The Arvind Kejriwal-led party is in power in Delhi and Punjab and has 11 MPs (one in Lok Sabha and 10 in Rajya Sabha). The party has been blowing hot and cold about its relationship with the Congress, particularly at the national level.
